Baydale House

Baydale House provides planned short, medium and long-term care and accommodation for young people up to 17 years. Baydale House offers a warm, therapeutic, homely living environment for young people and it aims to provide them with the opportunity to live in a setting that conveys a feeling of security and relaxation and which they are able to identify as ‘home’.

Baydale House provides a tranquil and ‘therapeutic’ environment for all young people ‘looked after’ within the home.

Baydale House is a property of a substantial size, positioned in a tranquil setting with grounds of a third of an acre and is framed on three sides by woodland and farmland. In addition to enjoying a peaceful, calm and therapeutic environment, Baydale House is also situated on the perimeter of Darlington.

Whilst Baydale House benefits from a semi rural location situated on the boundary, it is also positioned close to the main bus routes and is within half a mile of a supermarket, a post office and a bakery. The house is also within half a mile of GP surgeries, dental surgeries and local schools. Darlington town centre is only half a mile away, and benefits from good shopping facilities, a cinema, a theatre and the region’s number one leisure venue, the Dolphin Centre; a large swimming and sports complex with an extensive range of facilities.

There is a television, Sky TV, DVD player, computer, various other recreational equipment, books, magazines, daily newspaper and games available for young people’s use. Outings and other activities are arranged on a regular basis, including swimming, ten-pin bowling, snooker, football and ice-skating. Young people may use their weekly pocket money towards further activities. Young people are encouraged to join local clubs, sports groups and maintain links and friendships with other young people in the community. If a young person moves into Baydale House and they already take part in an activity or hobby we will support them to continue.

All young people’s bedrooms are decorated and furnished to a high standard and all bedrooms are spacious and well equipped. Large communal rooms are located on the ground floor for recreational activities, meals, etc. There are two large family bathrooms and a down stairs w/c. Each young person has a large bedroom, which is lockable, and is given his or her own key. Young people are encouraged to have personal possessions and to take pride in their home. Portable LCD TV’s with built in DVD player and Freeview are in all young people’s bedrooms.

Baydale House will promote and facilitate a wide range of activities including the provision of outdoor pursuits. Young people will be encouraged to help take care of the garden and the vegetable beds, which will grow fresh vegetables providing ingredients for meals cooked within the home.

The young people will be encouraged to take part in activities and programmes to promote skills and to enable them to become as independent as possible. These may include activities such as travel, shopping and cooking, as well as personal care. If deemed necessary a Risk assessment will be undertaken before an activity is agreed.
